Levantine's Meat Market just opened, but the idea behind it isn't new: cut everything in-house, mark it honestly, and treat every order like it's for our own table.
We opened Levantine's Meat Market to bring Windsor, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Essex County a butcher counter that understands both the classic cuts a local kitchen expects and the specific cuts a Levantine kitchen depends on — halal-friendly poultry and lamb, hand-shaped kafta, and the spice blends that finish a meal properly.
Everything on our case is broken down in-house rather than bought pre-cut and boxed. That's a slower way to run a counter, but it's the only way we're interested in running one.
Our ram's-head mark, above the Tecumseh Rd storefrontIt's the standard every butcher here is trained to, and the one we're building our name on from day one — no shortcuts just because we're new.
We sign on a storefront of our own on Tecumseh Rd East — the first counter to carry the Levantine's name and the ram's-head mark.
Weeks of building the display case, setting up the prep kitchen, and lining up halal-friendly sourcing relationships with Essex County farms before a single customer walks in.
Levantine's Meat Market opens its doors this year, with the case stocked in beef, lamb, goat, chicken, and our own house-made spice blends.
Still finding our rhythm and meeting new regulars every week — but the standard behind the case was never going to be new.
Every animal is broken down on-site by a butcher who can tell you where it came from. No pre-cut boxes arriving labelled "fresh."
Halal-friendly cuts are marked clearly, sourcing is never a mystery, and if you ask where something came from, you get a farm name — not a shrug.
We're brand new to Tecumseh Rd East, so we're earning every regular one order at a time — same as any shop that's worth sticking with.
